Coffea arabica x25 seeds glossy tropical foliage plant Coffea arabica is a glossy tropical foliage plant with a compact, bushy and upright habit. Coffea arabica is appreciated for its attractive shiny, dark green leaves. Coffea arabica is native to tropical areas of Ethiopia and Angola, where it grows as an evergreen perennial shrub in humid forests on high altitudes. This compact Coffea arabica makes for a great houseplant. Kept as a houseplant, it’s unlikely to produce its scented flowers and its coffee bean containing fruits, but it is for sure a great conversation starter. Coffea arabica is commonly known as Coffee plant or Arabian Coffee. Best grown as a pot plant Half Tender Perennial (to 0C) - must be protected from frost Height: up to 25 - 50cm in a pot Position: Sun in well drained soil or Shrub Compost. Sowing the seeds Soak the seeds in water for 24hrs sow in a seed tray or pot filled with moist (but not wet) good seed compost, lightly firmed down Ideally a well draining mix of 50 – 20 compost - vermiculite Sow seeds to 1.5cm deep evenly space and lightly cover Keep compost moist but not wet Keep at 18-22° C in a light place but out of direct sunlight Seedlings should appear in 20 - 30 days. Pot on 10cm pots once large enough to handle grow at 12° C Only use a fertilizer that is appropriate for orchids, can be used sparingly for the coffee plant to maintain mineral levels and a low pH. |
