This attractive and fairly common wild flower is a member of the Gentian family as can be seen by its opposite pairs of leaves and its erect inflorescences of star like flowers backed by a corolla tube.
Common centaury is a native biennial or sometimes annual of well drained soils

Sowing the seeds
Tolerates most soils, prefers partial shade, Sowing time throughout the year, with best results sowing March/April and August to September. Prepare the soil by lightly scarifying to create a shallow broken surface. Sprinkle evenly the seeds
Then rake the seed lightly into the surface.
Will grow in grass

Always use a good quality seed compost
