Pomegranates Punica granatum 'Nana' are usually associated with much warmer climes, so you may be surprised to learn that these small fruiting trees are surprisingly hardy and can do well in a sheltered spot in most parts of the UK.
Popular tree for Bonsai with magnificent flowers and juicy, edible fruit. The flowers are sweetly scented giving your home a fresh aroma.

Best grown as a pot plant

Tender Perennial (to -4C) - must be protected from frost
Height: up to 25 - 50cm in a pot 1 - 1.5m planted out.
Position: Sun in well drained soil or Shrub Compost.

Sowing the seeds
Soak the seeds in water for 24hrs
sow in a seed tray or pot filled with moist (but not wet) good seed compost, lightly firmed down
Ideally a well draining mix of 50 – 20 compost - vermiculite
Sow seeds to 1.5cm deep evenly space and lightly cover
Keep compost moist but not wet
Keep at 18-22° C in a light place but out of direct sunlight
Seedlings should appear in 20 - 30 days.
Pot on 10cm pots once large enough to handle
grow at 12° C

Always use a good quality seed compost
